Light
Have you ever wondered why certain things are certain colors? For example, why is a white board white? A white board will come across as white because the board has absorbed a red, green, and blue. If the board looked yellow, then the board has only absorbed blue. If the board looked green, then the board has absorbed blue and red.
If you put a certain color filter over white light, then the light becomes that color. If you overlap red, green, and a blue color filter and shine white light through it, then the light becomes black. The same way the board looks white because it absorbed red, green, and blue, the board would appear black if the same board did not absorb any of the color. Black is literally a lack of color.
